Why Does My Resume Keep Getting Rejected

Why Does My Resume Keep Getting Rejected Why Does My Resume Keep Getting Rejected AtResumeSpice, weve seen a lot of resumes and counseled a lot of job seekers. One of the biggest issues our clients face is that theyre submitting resumes, but theyre just not getting any calls. Here are a few common reasons why that happens1. Youre Not Following DirectionsThis has less to do with your resume and mora to do with your reading comprehension. Make sure you read through the entire job description. Sometimes, employers put instructions on how to apply at the very bottom of the description. They do that so they can automatically eliminate anyone who doesnt follow directions. If the employer asks for you to submit a resume in .pdf format along with a list of references and writing samples to a certain email address with a specific subject line, theyre testing you. Make sure you pass the test by following the directions exactly.2. Your Resume HasTypos and Improper GrammarWe know that mistakes happen. But when the only information an employer has about you is your resume, you want to make sure its working for you, not against you.Read your resume aloud, have a trusted friend who is excellent with grammar and spelling proof it, or hire a professional resume writing service to create it for you.No matter which avenue you take to ensure your resume is telling the right story, dont pass proofreading over. An extra ten minutes to reread your resume could be the difference between getting a call and not.3. Youre Overusing Quick Apply FeaturesQuick apply can be abreath of fresh air if youre used tosubmitting applications that take 45 minutes to complete. However, you might not be getting a call because youre jumping the gun.Make sure you truly match the job requirements before hitting apply. If you only read one or two bullet points before applying, you might be overlooking a crucial requirement further down.4. Youre OverqualifiedThis has become a clichd excuse that job seekers have grown tired of hearing, but it is a legitimate reason why you might get passed over.If youve been in a higher position or have a lot more experience than the job requires, a great way to explain why youre seeking this specific opportunity is to include a cover letter. Maybe youre at a place in your career where you want to change pace, or maybe you want to learn a different skill set altogether. Address it in a cover letter so that you wont be automatically dismissed as too experienced.Savannah Ober is a resume expert atResumeSpice.Master the art of closing deals and making placements. Future Technical Support Trends

Future Technical Support TrendsFuture Technical Support TrendsFor several years now, industry futurists have been predicting the death of technical sttze as we know it. However, recent research by HDI shows that, to paraphrase author Mark Twain, reports of supports death have been grossly exaggerated.According to the 2015 HDI Support Center Practices Salary Report, demand for support- gauged by the number of tickets (cases) handled- is up in nearly two-thirds of support centers. This is the continuation of a trend weve seen for at least seven years Each year, the number of tickets goes up. Some have speculated that this is due to the increase in automation, but only 16 percent of the tickets were generated without human intervention.Hiring in the industry is healthy, with 28 percent of organizations (companies, universities, hospitals, etc.) creating and filling new positions, and another 51 percent filling positions as they become open. Only four percent of organizations are cuttin g staff.Sought-after technical support skillsThe top five skills support centers want areCustomer service skillsCommunication skillsAbility to learn quicklyTroubleshooting and problem-solving skillsAbility to work under pressureFrontline support analysts must be able to listen to and empathize with customers who have suffered an interruption or need a service as fast as possible they must also be able to speak and write clearly, learn on-the-fly, solve problems, and do it all quickly, under pressure, in accordance with rules and guidance, and in conjunction with their teammates.Customer service skills are more important now across the board- in part because consumer expectations are higher. Thanks to Google, Apple, and other companies that have mastered the user interface, customers- internal and external alike- think like consumers and expect simplicity, immediacy and ease of use. Internal support is no exception, because there is now competition where none existed before. Cloud te chnologies have made shadow IT (applications and services installed and used without the knowledge or approval of IT) more widespread, and the ability to put a cloud application or system to use immediately by entering a credit card number changes the role and mandate of service and support.Staff satisfactionAlmost two-thirds of those who work in technical support centers say theyre satisfied with their work, and an additional 15-20 percent say theyre very satisfied.Among the factors contributing to a satisfied staff, relationships within the team was the most selected (72 percent), and management was the second most selected (65 percent). Compensation scored far lower, at 52 percent, and barely ahead of organizational culture (51 percent). In previous research performed jointly with Robert Half Technology, we found that the most important elements of an organizations culture- from a staff perspective- included opportunities to learn, access to training and development, work/life bal ance, attainable performance goals, and opportunities for advancement. If you want to work in the field of technical support, you should concentrate not only on understanding the technical side, but on customer service and communication skills. If you do get to work in this field, chances are youll be a satisfied employee with a busy and challenging career ahead. In a forthcoming Focus Paper, HDI Senior Writer/Analyst Roy Atkinson discusses results of recent research as it relates to the people in support.
